Default Tilt Steering Column experience

Hi all,

Has anyone had experience with the below eBay seller and tilt column. They have over 75K ratings and 99.4%, but the price just seems too low to be any good.

Obvious difference is tilt but not telescopic, and seemingly fixed at 33". Haven't taken my column out yet, so don't know if the 33" is odd or normal setting (i.e. what a stock non-tilt might be already). For me the stock non-tilt length is fine, I just need it to tilt to assist in getting in.

Other potential issue is does this thing need lots of other "stuff" in order to complete the install (if anyone had ever tried them) ? There is a 30 day return, so leaning towards giving it a try... but if anyone has experience with the thing, could save me some time.

1st class automotive parts
33” GM Chrome Tilt Steering Column Keyed Floor Shift for 68-80 Chevy Corvette
US $212.44

Thanks for any input. eBay listing

I looked at the listing.
Just how are you going to mount this?
Personally. I wouldn't even consider it.

That's actually part of my question, never having done a Vette steering column remove/install. But based on your comment and looking closer, it seems it is missing a flange to attach to the under-dash and at the firewall. So unless I'm missing something, extra parts are needed that seem to not be included. Thanks for the observation.

Yeah used TT columns have gotten really expensive so I see the attraction on price. But it seems almost too good to be true... At a glance it looks like a Flaming River column but seems to come with far far less hardware on it. Maybe it's a knockoff or copy.

Good catch on the flanges - there should be one welded to it to mount under the dash and another at the firewall.

No idea on the splines and whether it mates/matches readily to a Corvette rag joint... presumably that is correct.

Don't know if a collapsible column is important to you (originals had a limited amount of collapsibility).

33" seems short going from memory but maybe that's correct...

You can study the differences between this one and pictures of used columns on eBay or Flaming River units on their site. Zip and others sell a Flaming River units too I think.

...and of course ask questions(s) of the seller. Although w/ 76k feedback I wouldn't expect a very tailored response. This looks more like a mass seller than a seller knowledgeable in the intricacies of Corvette steering.

good luck

I don't know how they measure aftermarket steering columns but I while up in the attic looking for something else, saw my old fixed - wasn't ideal for precise measuring but it's about 40" total, not 33". The main tube housing of my column is about 33". But about another 5" or so of shaft extend below this down to the rag joint spline. Likewise there's another 2" or so of shaft extending beyond the upper column case where the wheel/horn go. Hardly a precise measurement but makes for about 40-ish inches total.
