I am doing a power window conversion on my 72. The passenger side went in perfectly and runs up and down smooth. The drivers side made noise and ran up and down rough. I put it together correctly and greased everything. I couldn't figure out what the problem was so I bought another motor locally and tried that and still had the problem. Next I figured the regulator might be defective and got another one. And that didn't solve the problem. So the old setup had the problem and when I put the new motor on the new regulator I had the problem. The only thing that I didn't change was the alignment plate. I even had an extra bushing and tried that. I am running it up and down on the bench and in the car with no tracks or glass. So there is nothing to bind it. I am to the point that I am getting very frustrated with this and if I didn't sell my manual tracks I would put them back in.
My experience over the years has been that when I am frustrated and out of patience....I walk away for a few days. I am going thru that with my brakes now and you would think I had never bled brakes before. But take some time off of the windows and do something else. Painting something always makes me feel good! Maybe it's just the fumes.
I'm ordering the new plate and bushing today. Lets see if thats the problem. 2 new regulators and 2 new motors having the same problem. The only thing I reused was the plate.
Well I got the new plates today. I bought 2. 1 for each regulator. I have 2 new regulators and 2 new motors and 2 new mounting plates for the drivers side. And both make the same grinding noise, in the car and on the bench. I have greased everything. I can't figure it out at this point.
