I unplugged the wire from the #1 terminal and taped it up and fired up the engine and the alternator is putting out 14.75v and when I turn the key off the engine stops! When the engine is off #1 has 0v and when running it has 14v so not exactly sure what's going on. BUT the engine stops now when I turn the key off.

The contact on the left is power for all the gauges including the battery light and the right contact goes to the alternator excite terminal. Do you all the gauges work?

Yes all the gauges work. Did I get that backwards that the contact on the left is power not ground?

Did some more digging around in my PC and found this for the circuit board

Just to test and make sure I took a dash light and added some wires to it. I took the switched wire and connected it to one side of the light bulb and to terminal #2 on the alternator. I took the other side of the light bulb and connected it to the #1 terminal.

With the key on and the engine not running the test GEN light is lit up.

With the engine running the test GEN light is off.

Interesting when you turn the key off the test GEN light comes on for a bit until the engine stops.

At least I'm positive how it should be connected up now. Hmm I have a switched wire that goes to the electric choke I can use that and remove Bubba's wire that's plugged into the IGN pin on the fuse panel. Then all I need to do is find the brown #25 wire from the gauge cluster and bring that out to the alternator.

I think I found the brown #25 wire on the drivers side and it was not connected to anything. It matches the size and color of the wire at the center gauge cluster terminal #8. I get some strange readings with the meter, with the common on the end of the wire and touching terminal #8 I get 1.5M ohms, if I reverse the meter leads and connect the red to the end of the wire I get open. I'm wondering if there is a diode in that circuit somewhere?

Edit: a quick search how to test a diode with my Fluke 75 and for sure there is a diode in that circuit somewhere.
