Fuel gauge
My 78 base model just developed a new issue. My fuel gauge was always a little bouncy when driving, but would
straighten out when stopped. Now when i step on the brake the needle pins to full. Also when I use the turn
signals it will bounce back and forth with the turn signal. Also when I put in reverse the needle pins to full.
I'm thinking possibly a ground issue ?? but not really sure. Any starting point for this ??
Thanks
Charlie

Now it sounds like your gauge is very voltage sensitive.
Bad ground? Maybe this caused the gauge to go bad? Grounded through the printed circuit panel that all the gauges are grounded with. Circuit panel in poor condition ?
bottom line. Remove the center gauge cluster. Inspect the condition of the wire connector that plugs into the printed circuit panel. Inspect the printed circuit panel closely. Replace the defective gauge and clean or replace all connections. And then go from their. 48 year old car with 48 year old wiring. Best of luck.
I found the ground pin in one of my taillight sockets had detached internally.
The wiring in your 78 is very similar to that of the 79 documented here.
