Default Soft Top Adjustment

New to convertibles. I've had this '74 for about a month. I'm not new to Corvettes but I haven't owned one in about 10 years. Anyway, I'm having trouble finding adjustment procedures in the AIM, on Youtube, and the forum. I bought this Vette with this new top already installed, looks like it has a new frame too. I can't seem to adust the gaps on the back of the top. I I haven't tried loosening the frame bolts yet but I have tried adjusting the rear pins. Before loosening the frame bolts and getting it farther out of adjustment, I wanted to see if I could get some expert opinions.

Also, am I missing something in the front? I looks like too much of the windshield frame is visible.

Sorry if the pictures are too big, I can't figure out how to make them smaller.

Thanks,
Scott

You are correct about the windshield fit. You are missing the windlace which extends across the length of the front bow.

Is the windlace something you can buy separate and easily installed?

Hello,
Maybe Al Knoch for the windlace?
One source for information dealing with the soft top itself is the Chassis Service Manual for your year car.
Corvette Body Folding Tops 1B-39 thru 1B-45.
It's POSSIBLE that its the same for all 68-....? soft tops.
Regards....

This is a 69.
I believe it's an original.

I found the windlace at Al Knoch. Thank you guys.

Now to figure out how to close these gaps. I’ll have to buy a chassis manual I guess. I figured it would be in the assembly manual.

In the back, are the pins screwed all the way in? Mine come loose every once in a while and can leave a gap like yours.

How is you rear weatherstrip? Mine was collapsed and hard. I replaced it with a thick soft strip and got a much better seal.

My weather strip is new. I got the drivers side gap closed up tonight by adjusting the pin.

The passenger side pin is screwed in all the way. It seemed like the latch wasn’t closing all the way so I took it apart and cleaned it. When the pin latched I can still kinda push on the frame and get it to unlatch without pulling the latch handle. If I do pull the latch handle the pin doesn’t pop out of the latch like the drivers side does.

I'm wondering if I need a new latch, pin, and maybe some shims.

Hello,
The Chassis Service Manual deals with the vinyl / cloth part of the soft top and attaching it to the top's frame.
The AIM deals with installing the top on the car since it comes to the line as an 'assembly'.

I think I’ve got it figured out. The passenger side is not latching. It feels like it latches but it is actually latching on the edge of the bezel. That is why I can push it towards the front of the car and unlatch it. When I unscrew the pin long enough to reach the actual latch, it doesn’t line up with the bezel hole.

I’ve ordered a shim for the pin bracket. I think I’m getting close to correcting this issue. I’ll let you guys know if this fixes it.

Thanks for the help!

I got the gaps in the rear fixed! It was a matter of adding a shim and adjusting the pin bracket.

My next issue are these 1”X2” holes over the doors on both sides. Am I missing weather stripping or did someone cut the weather stripping short on the rear bow of the soft top?
