Default Paint Gurus: Sanding K36

I sprayed 2 coats of K36 on top of my DP48 Sealer. I shot a light guide coat on top of the K36 that will be sanded to ensure my panels are flat. Sanding the guide coat, I sanded through the K36 and can see the DP48 in places. I will be shooting another K36 layer before the BC/CC, so, should I be concerned?

Thanks!

Nope, you're fine. Just make sure there aren't any bare fiberglass spots when you shoot the base. I would seal again with Dp just before painting incase there are any bare edges. I've moved to K38 now because it builds higher for the first two sandings.

Some edges (like along the front fenders) have thinner layers of K36. When I sand the next K36 coat, should I avoid sanding in these areas to avoid having any bare fiberglass?

To get the primer thicker on the edges, when I spray a coat of primer (or clear for that matter) I always spray the edges first over the whole car, sit down for 5 minutes and then prime the whole car, then I'll sit again for 5 minutes and hit the edges again. Then time for a good flash dry and repeat. Use a finer grit when you block the edges as well. Just be tedious.

Thanks. That sounds like a good suggestion that I'll use on the next coat.

Anyone else have ideas?

If you didn't have a chance to watch "Rides" on TLC Sunday night, there was a discussion about one of the custom cars they had been working on getting ready to paint, the guy said, "We'll have 1500 manhours getting this car ready for paint, 4-5 hours actually painting the car and after the paint is dry, another 400-500 hours sanding and buffing.

Probably the single largest mistake a "DIY'er" makes - Painting the car before it's ready. Don't ask me how I know! :cry

Take your time get it right I put 6 coats of k36 on mine before I was finished. Just get used to sanding.I used paint stirring sticks instead of blocks. They band easily and with a C3 body and all the curves it worked out well.Good luck.

I am using the long board, as well as paint stirrers. In tight spots and curves, I use the rubber sanding block.

So, if I sanded through the DP48, I should lay on another coat of K36 and sand with 220 before laying on another K36 and wet sanding with 600?

I appreciate all this great advice!

If you go through the DP, put on another coat of DP. That's your sealer that'll keep any fiberglass from popping up in the paint layer. DP is an alternative to spraying a gel coat which is such a pain.
