This has really been bugging me since I installed the carpet in my 76 two years ago. On the drivers side by the transmission tunnel just underneath the shifter console, the carpet does not lay flat against the tunnel. Instead, there are creases running the length of the car. I have no clue on how to fix this, and it shows up even more when I bolt the seats in. Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I cut the carpet at the creases so it lays flat? Kind of like window tint with bubbles, or is my carpet not cut low enough by the trans tunnel. Please help!
 My only suggestion is to remove it when it warm and let it sit on the driveway in the sunlight to help soften the carpet. This may help but I'm not positive. It sounds like the carpet was never plyable (sp?) enough when it was installed & this may be the result  .
Good luck, maybe someone will have a better suggestion before you start cutting up a new carpet.

The carpet was soft and pliable when installing it the first time. I've now removed the carpet due to replacing the body mounts and want to get any tips on how to fix this when replacing it. It's too difficult to find another drivers side black carpet. The rest of the carpet fits like a glove.

How about using a hair dryer to heat it. I used a hair dryer to heat my new center console vinyal to install the shifter plate. I'm putting in a new ACC carpet kit and might try it in certain places. Of course, I would be careful with it to not burn the carpet.
Go to K-mart, Wal-mart or some other retailer and buy some 3M Spray Contact adhesive. That is what I used when installing my carpet. Spray some on the tranny tunnel and some on the carpet. Let it dry until tacky then press the carpet to the tunnel with the crease pressed out. My carpet fits good but it fit good before I installed it. Where did you get your carpet kit. My kit was the molded type with the jute padding on it.

I have a clothing steamer like you see in the retail clothing stores.
Comes in handy for other things. Something like this may help. They have a 6 foot hose on them. Does a local friend have one you can borrow.

I just put a kit in a 1970 and now i know carpet can kiss my butt! I still have to take it to a pro to have him put in the rear fender well peices. I do know how to fix your problem 1. Go to McDonalds and get a hamburger and fries 2. eat the food 3. Carefully sit the bag in such a was as to cover the crease in the carpet.
