Annoying Buzzer
First the good news: Today I drove the 'Vette for the first time since October, having finally finished my winter project, a complete interior restoration. New heater core, carpets, trim panels, etc. All runs great.
Getting everything back to stock, I've reattached wires, replaced numerous switches, light bulbs, fuses, etc. The good news is everyting works. The bad news is these '74's sure had a lot of warning switches, circuits, and lamps! Bubba had earlier bypassed or disconnected this stuff.
Anyway, now I have a buzzer sounding (the one in the dash between the speedo/tach) everytime I open the driver's door, regardless if the key is in the ignition or not *(note however, if the car is running, and I open the driver's door, there's no buzzer).. I assumed this is a key warning buzzer gone awry? Seems like it should buzz if I forget and leave the key in the ignition, but no, it buzzes with or without the key. With the driver's door open, the switch that operates the courtesy lamps in the forward door frame controls the buzzing circuit. Any ideas as to why it buzzes even when there's no key in the ignition?
I don't know exactly what I did wrong, but I caused this exact problem when I installed a new key/lock-cylinder in my steering column.
You may want to look at Jim Shea's article ( http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/KeyBuzzerDiagnosis.doc ) and other steering column articles on http://www.corvettefaq.com .
Good Luck, I'll be looking for a posted fix :yesnod:
This is exactly the T/S guide I was looking for. Preliminary analysis is my ignition switch will need an overhaul. That little actuator tab is most likely stuck in the raised (key in) position. Everything else external to the switch appears normal.
How much work was it to get your switch out? Where'd you get a new replacement?
Cheers,
David
