Default Alignment Question?

I am new to the furum (my first post) and am rebuilding my 79' from the grownd up. I was wondering if I could have an alignment done with the body off and motor & tranny out? Would the lack of weight be an issue:confused:

Welcome. :seeya

Well... I dont see why you cant get in aligned as long as all the parts are there to do it. However the lack weight will mess with how the wheel is tilted (toe? there is a technical term but I just cant remember right now)

The car needs to be at full curb weight to get the alignment right. The amount of load on the springs will definatly effect the alignment. Mainly the camber setting.

I was afriad of that. It would just be so much easier to to get it done with the body off. :cuss [IMG][/IMG]

I ended up doing mine twice. the first time was before interior and vert top were installed but the body was on. I did this just to get a basic starting point like checking fender clerance and ride height because every component from the bushings to shocks were changed. We did put sand bags in to simulate weight. and the main reason was the frame had been bent in a previous owner accident so that had a lot to do with checking all these things before painting and interior

You could ballpark it, by setting the camber more positive then you want it when done, the extra weight wil push the camber negative. The problem is how much will it shift negative  , On second thought wait till the body is on :yesnod:

If you could pull the frame down to the factory ride height on the alignment rack you would be OK, I guess. Joe
