Simple question: what aluminum pump brand is best? So many choices with similar attributes, can't see any difference but price. Stock 350/300 w/o AC. Any suggestions?
I used the Stewart pump on my 90. Why?  Just seemed the best deal at the time. (they also have a BBS to answer any question that you may have. Seemed like a customer oriented company :D )
Reason for Stewart -- Over the life of the car, I had several 'stock' pumps fail.
(Bearing failure) The reason for this was high rpms and the very small bearings in the stock pump. In 1971 GM went with the larger bearing/hub pump, due to this problem.
If I used the '71 pump then my pulley and fan would not fit.
With a Stewart pump, I got the combination of the large bearing and correct size hub.
My beautiful wife bought me a Stuart for my birthday- I haven't installed it yet. She apparently did her homework, because Stuart has an outstanding reputation!
I'm in the process of ordering a water pump also, it'a between the Stewart Stage I Cast Iron & AC Delco Alum. I have a stock '78 L82 and after I did research on the pumps, the Stewart pumps are very good, but I won't go with a Stage II on a stock motor, it pushs the water to fast, it can hurt in cooling. If you have a hotter cam or some motor work done, then thats a good chioce. I think it's going to be the AC Delco Alum. for me.
