Just purchased my first Corvette (1981) and while its in fairly good shape I am trying to fix a few nagging problems. One of them is the driver's side mirror. The pedestal is tight but the head is very loose and rattles like crazy. I took the door panel off but could not tell if that were the way to get to the head, almost like doing a tonsilectomy from the rectum. While I was in there all the rollers, tracks and locking mechanisms were cleaned, lubed and adjusted so the window/locks work perfect but that mirror is driving me nuts.

OK, first you have to remove the mirror from the door by taking the 2 nuts off the studs. Then remove the mirror from the door and look up and inside of the stalk. There is a torx head screw in there. That is what keeps the head on tight. You just have to tighten the screw up and it will be good as new. Don't quite remember the size on the torx head though, sorry
Good question. I have the same problem with my passenger mirror and will try this as well. One more question though, my mirror fell of last week. Now I just have the aluminum head inside the mirror casing. Is there a way to get a new mirror for this without replacing the entire mirror and casing?
