Tranny swap
Im about to install a 4L80E in a 78. Has anyone here done this if yes what are you using to controll the transmission shifts? I read up on compushift they are very nice but very pricey. I guss manual is a option but i rather full auto.

How much did it cost you? Let us know how it goes as i would like to upgrade to this tranny next time my 700R4 goes away. The 4L80E is supposed to be a really good tranny. The strength of a T400 with the benefit a 4th OD gear. Maybe you could rig up steering wheel mounted swtiches for shifting like the racers do it.

A junk yard gets 700 just for the tranny. Then from what I have seen a control module coasts between 750-1100. They are very pricey but it is by far the strongest overdrive tranny out there. Then you gotta shorten the drive shaft and move the cross member back. modifying the cross member is no problem for me. I hate spending 800 dollars for a little black box and wiring harness :mad
