Preparing to repaint my 82 red (what other color is there) and my Corvette black book shows the code as "code 70 Red". My question is that the later C4 cars that are painted Torch Red are also code 70. Surely it's not the same color. I love Torch Red but my interior is the stock 82 red and I'm thinking the Torch red will clash with my stock interior because the red interior in the 82's is not an extremely bright red as is the "flame red" interior in the late models. I found a pic. of a red 82 and the interior looked alot brighter red than mine is which looked great with what looked to be Torch red paint. MY QUESTION IS-Is the late model code 70/Torch Red the same as the stock 1982 Red/code 70 and if it isn't where can I find the formula for 1982 Corvette Red. Thanks for any help!!
There should be no difference in a color that was given a code. There should not be 2 shades of "70" even though they carried different names on different vehicles.
But that is puzzleing, I didn't think "torch red" was around in 82.
The other 82 I found on the net sure did look like it was torch red but like I was saying I hate to paint mine torch red and it clash with the interior. My interior seems a shade or 2 darker. Definately not maroon but not as bright as I'd like.
The window sticker of my '82 classifies the interior as "ARR2 DK RED LTHR FACED BKT". As for the paint code, check with a reputable body shop. I had the chassis of my rear engine dragster painted (Flame Red) to match my '91 K1500. I gave the paint shop the two-digit code, but they had me check the glove box, for an 'additional' FOUR-digit code. I guess there are 'shades' of the two-digit codes?
The 82 red is called "Spectra Red". If you tell your paint shop/supplier that you want "1982 Corvette Paint Code 70", this is what you will get. The Spectra Red has a bit of black in it and is TOTALY different shade of red than Torch Red or the 1984-85 Bright Red.

This is not exactly true, as one who has looked up many, many colors. Just one for instance is Code #52 Yellow, used from '77-'81. This obviously is NOT the same shade through these years, yet the code(#52)is the same. You have to know and find the "correct" paint "FORMULA" or "recipe" for the given year Corvette you are looking for. Same instance happens with Yellow code #56 '74-'76. Again three different shades for the same code number.
