I haven't used the Cleartastic but I've seen them and they look like they will work OK. I have Nip Chips on my car which are a hard plastic that covers the rear dog leg. They are clear but I didn't like the look when I mounted them that way. You could see some of the adhesive tape through the plastic. I ended up taking them off and painting them from the rear so that when you put them on you don't see the adhesive and they match the paint. This is easy for me because my car is black. If you have a different color you will probably have to leave them clear or match the paint more carefully. Also, the adhesive tape they give you sucks. I ended up using molding tape to mount mine which you couldn't do if you left them clear. And when you try to take them off 9 times out of ten you hurt the paint a little and need to touch it up. All in all it seems that the Cleartastic is a better solution because there is no adhesive and they can be put on and removed without any damage. If you get them you should post on your experience. Good luck.
I bought a small roll from eastwood and cut my own . I made some templates form paper to get a good idea of the shape I wanted . At any rate the stuff is just great ,, previously I would have to touch up the front of the rear wheel opening every time I drove the car any distance . It is very hard to detect when in place and easy to install . :steering:
One other thing I should mention. Because my car is black it gets very hot in the summer sun. Most of the time it's garaged but on weekends and during car show season it's out at least one day and sometimes two. The Nip Chips tend to warp because of the heat. I'm on my second set because the first set deformed and started to hit the edge of the door on the driver side. It took a nice chip out of the paint that had to be touched up. You wouldn't have this problem with the Cleartastic.

Re: Cleartastic Paint Protectors (1980C3)
A buddy of mine rides a Honda Valkyrie Trike. On the front portion of the rear wheels where the body comes down he has the cleartastic material. Its not that noticable and protects the paint pretty darn good. I have seen on one of the Car Shows on tv some clear stuff they put on the front of a hood of a truck. They used this instead of a bugshield and it was almost invisible. It came in different thicknesses. I don`t remember what it was called though. Maybe someone will remember.
Have them on the front and rear of the rear wheels on my 73. One can hardly tell they are there. The first set I put on I did not use water as in the instructions and one came off. They have been on for over a year - took them off twice to wash/clean the exterior. Washed the Clearastic pieces too.
Had the Nip-Chips, but did not like them - too visable.

Sounding quite positive. They can actually stay on for long periods of time? Does this cause any damage to the paint, since from what you say, you need to add water to the surface?
I bought the front and rear pieces for the rear wheel. During one of the monsoons we get in Houston, the front pieces came off during highway driving. The rear pieces can stay on indefinitely, but over time they turn a little yellow. Nevertheless, whenever I want to go on long road trips, I install the rear wheel pieces that definitely do protect against rocks and dirt flying up from the rear wheel. They do no damage to paint.
Hi
First, I would like to thank you for your kind words. I'm really happy you’re pleased with our product.
I thought I would chime in and help answer some questions about our kits
The kits we provide for 68-82 are sold in pairs. They are very easy to install and can be done by yourself.
We have wind tested up to 160mph in dry and wet conditions.
You can remove the kits when ever you what. Leaves no residue.
You can reuse them.
Most people leave them on. You can wash right over them.
I know some members Z6 over them.
What's nice is you have the ability to remove them when waxing. This prevents any wax residue from building up on the edges, which creates pronounced lines.
We have added UV inhibitors to the film (not a top layer but mixed into the film). This takes care of the slight yellowing.
If anyone has any questions always feel free to contact me
Safe driving season to you and your families

Installed the Cleartastic today on a 1980. Was very easy, took about 1.5 hours, as I took my time to smooth out the air bubbles. Followed the directions toa T. Looks very good, hardly noticable. Very impressed.
Can't belive I just missed the 10% off.
Any chance you will be making these for some of the front nose areas?
i bought a set for the front of the rear wheels....couldn't get them on there right...i don't know..had too many bubbles and it looked terrible, so i threw em out...maybe i didn't install them right..any tricks or advice?

Front of rear wheel kit (dog leg)is a pretty easy kit to apply. Just wax the surface. Use plenty of water to apply the kit. Squeegee out air bubles and water...let em dry! (Fit real good too  )
I have some bubbles, but only seen real close up, not from a distance. matter of fact I just took pics of my car, and you will notice that you can't see them.
You really have to follow the instructions, and to reall get all the bubbles out, I would push the bubbles out again after letting it sit for a while, and re-wetting it.
The more time you put into it, the less bubbles you will have. Definately clings on tight.

Yes! Use plenty of water. Then once applied and squeegeed (if that’s a word), let them sit for a while. Go back and check them to see if a tiny air bubble or 2 accumulated and just re squeegee or use a soft cloth and push it out. Done
Anyone know who makes or where I can find the same type of cleartastic stuff as a paint protector for under the edge (weatherstripping) of the convertible top that rests on the back deck of the car???
I found a place that wraps the complete nose's of hi dollar Porsches, lamob's and the like.
Useing a good product and installed right you cant see it untill you get real, real close.
I was impressed. They want only 500.00 to do the nose of my c3. Need to save up for that.
