I will get my first Vette (82 CE) delivered in a few weeks. Since I bought it I've been following the posts on this forum. From what I gather, it seems that driving a C3, especially one in beautiful condition, leads to a very distinct and predictable response from the general public, ie-stares, compliments, comments of awe, waves, smiles and being placed in a position where people want to talk to you. In other words, it seems the car gives you celebrity. Did you find this new found celebrity has changed your personality in any way? Do you become a different person when cruising in you Vette??
Sincerely,
Twoinchgroup

Well, actually yes. All for the better I'm hopeing though. I use to get uneasy at people starring at me, until I realized it was the car :lolg: It's really cool driving down the street, and having people from all walks of life and ages just stop and stare with a smile on their face. It is important, I thnk, that when kids are looking at the car, that you wave to them :seeya create a new generation for the hobby.

I love the attention and stares. Though, the questions get a little old after a few days. But, it does kind of make you feel a little better knowing you're driving a car that a lot of poeple are interested. And it's nice to get into the 'ol Stingray, take a cruise and just relax...

Theres good and bad. back when I had the scoop sticking out of my hood I was cruising to work down the LV strip. I was between sahara and charleston (where the hourly motels are). As I drove by one day there was a bunch of hookers hanging out on the street and they all started hiking up their skirts at me and making kissy faces etc. I thought COOL they LOVE my car. Then I thought, oh great I look like the kind of guy that needs the services of a prostitute.

Hey 1bad69,
I remember seeing your car on another post, and it is One Bad 69.
You're a funny guy!! However, I think you would get the stares without your costume.

I gained a lot of self-confidence in more ways than one after I got my car. I was 16 when I got it...
To be honest, I felt the car transformed me, which is probably one of the reasons why I clung to it so much. Everyone had their mainstream thing which made them cool-> all I had was computers and video games. Not cool. Then I got this car and fell in love with it, and eventually became a car guy. I guess it can be a little geeky when you're all technical with it, but still... no one can argue with the sights and sounds of a 'vette. Definitely high up there on the cool list.

Definitely has not changed my personality.
I think a car is just a representation of your personality. I drive fast (not reckless) and I like cars that get up and go. I've only had my '69 for 5 months. I am amazed at how much attention it gets, but frankly it doesn't affect me one way or the other. I find myself having to answer lots of questions about it, and I don't mind. But if no one looked at it, I wouldn't care.
I didn't buy the car so people would look at me. I'm happily married (12.5 years) with two kids. I do not need or even want attention.
It's funny you mentioned this b/c unwanted attention is one reason I declined to buy a Viper instead of my '02 Z06. It's not the only reason, for the Z06 is an easier car to drive _hard_, but sheesh, in the Viper I felt like 1000 eyes were on me...including the wrong kind (cops). Z06= stealth. Then 10 months later I go out and find a nice '69 ragtop and I'm driving a cop-magnet. Oh well. It's a car I fell in love with as a kid, so I bought one, and I couldn't care less what other people think.

Re: Has driving a C3 changed your personality?? (Schmucker)
Hasn't changed me to be honest, I enjoy it when I have the top down, just get into a zone, don't worry about anything or anyone else. On the other hand with the roof up it is just another old car, I really don't enjoy driving it much but that is why I bought vert. Rode in a freinds '99 FRC and had the same feeling, nothing special just a load car. I used to own a 450 SL and traded for a 911 with the targa roof. Missed the full open air driving too much to me it is just totally different than targa's, ttops, sunroofs. I also know many ppl that after having a vert at one point in their lives would never have one again due to noise, security and a host of other downsides.
Re: Has driving a C3 changed your personality?? (twoinchgroup52)
No It hasn't. It took a while to get used to the adulation because I'm normally a quiet, reserved person. I try to answer questions the best I can, and I dont let anybody open the hood but me, even now more so after hearing J75's story about his hood, definitely NO LEANING (reserved only for me).
