Default Emission Systems "back then"

Boy have things and attitudes changed over the years. Was talking with some friends the other day about emission and it got me to thinking back about when the emission systems were first installed on cars (yes, I am that old :( )

The general attitude back then (late 60's and the 70's) was that, Yes, the Feds could require the auto companies to install emission systems on the new cars and, yes, that could prohibit the new car dealers (and even professional mech) from modifying those systems. But it was your car. It did not belong to the government. So if you, as an individual, wanted to remove the emission systems then you had every right to do so as it was your property :) So the local dumpster and/or land fill quickly filled up with A.I.R. systems and later with the new cat converters. Back then it was just a simple matter of individual rights.

Just some random thought from an old man think back as to how it was in the good old days

No question about it Tom, tons of junk in the dumps then, and we weren't the only ones....easy pickup about 2-3 mpg, and add 20 hp to the typical engine...
Today, just reprogramme the computer, and it's done deal...
