Default 1971 Hood Release Snapped!

My hood release cable snapped on my car and now I cannot open the hood. Any suggestions so I can get the hood open is appreciated, it's been a pain. Thanks in advance.

The same thing happened on my 73. There was a small circular opening covered by a plastic cap in the wind-shield wiper well, I removed it and you can stick a screw-driver inside and manually open it. I am not sure if this is the same on 71.

Good luck

When that happened to me I was able to reach up from underneath towards the master cylinder area and find the latch and flip it with my finger to get the hood open. Of coarse I had to jack the car up first. My cable broke where it attaches to the latch under the hood. To fix it I just used an old bicycle brake cable and cut it to down to an appropraite length so I could feed it thru the latch and connect it too the broken end of the existing cable with a small cable tie that also came from and old bike caliper brake. Its worked great ever since. Didnt cost me a dime and nobody has ever even noticed my rig.

:smash:

Since you have a 71 you are in luck. You can pull off the side egg crate grille and reach up to the hood release from there. There is no magic plug you can access from the top because of the wiper door like there is on later models.

:iagree: I've had to do the same with my '70 and was the easiest way to do it.
