I'm replacing my stereo and speakers. So I figured, while I'm at it...You know how it goes.
Anyway, my speedometer is only half illuminated (the left half), so I'd like to replace the lamp, maybe both while I'm at it. The thing is, I can't figure out how to gain access to the lamps. I have the top dash pad removed, but reaching behind to grab the bulb seems impossible.
Dropping the column sounds drastic, but it really is a cakewalk.
Remove the plastic cover at base of column.
Remove the two bolts that hold the column "up".
The headlight vacuum override will come out also.
The column will drop down approx 3-4 inches.
Easy.
Let me know if you want a hand.
After you drop the column it's real easy. You'll see the circuit panel/whatchacallit on the back of the dash. I believe you twist to remove the bulb and holder.. no wires involved. The bulb pops out of the holder.. Easy replacement.
