I own a 71. The wiper door is in two pieces, the portion with the grill, and then the door that raises. You guys all know that. Well, the door that raises is loose, that is, I can wiggle it or tilt it for and aft. It probably has nearly 1/2 inch of play. I saw some other early 70s last weekend and noticed that their doors were nice and tight with no movement. Any ideas why I have this movement? I hate to tear into this area but I guess I will have too in time. Thank you in advance. Rick
Rick, check the special shouldered bolts and white nylon washers that hold the door on. If all is OK, check the meckanism[spelling] for a break. The assy manuel shows the correct assembly of the door to the other linkage etc. Thad
When I got my car, the bolts were just plain 5/16 about an inch long...
no shoulder....all I did was dremel a slot in the tip to use a 1/8 screwdreiver to run them home....and use RTV to secure them from the open end of the holes...yeh, i'ts loose but i'ts not a problem for me....I suspect someone may have adjusted the door in the closed position, as it's been fine like that for about 7 years now....
