Have already decided to axe the TH350. Trying to make up my mind whether to go with 5 speed manual or a 700R4. As far as ease of conversion, which would be the lesser of the two?? Also which would be more cost effective?? The car will not be a daily driver just a weekend toy so I am leaning more toward a manual. What are you guys opinions??
:auto:
I was lucky to be honest, one of the guys from the local vette club was doing the opposite (manual to auto) so we basically just swapped parts. Now he seems to be happy and I'm definately happy. I got the linkage from Speed Direct. :steering:
The TH350 to 200-4R swap is the easiest and cheapest (by far)! If you check around the 200-4R has replaced the 700R4 as the OD tranny of choice. It's a plug 'n play swap from the TH350 in most cases -- no driveshaft cutting or crossmember replacement. (And quite frankly, a well-built 200-4R shifts better than I do!)
But ultimately it's up to you. If you want a manual, just be prepared to spend a little more time, effort, and cash to do the job.
Actually installing the 5speed Richmond is pretty much a plug'n'play job too. No modifations needed for the crossmember or the drive shaft. Manual pedals bolts right in and the Z-bar is the only thing that needs to be bolted or welded to the frame. Other than that it's easy piecy lemon squezy.... :yesnod:
