I am doing a frame-off of my '78. While down to the frame, I plan on upgrading my brakes. This is not an NCRS project, so I welcome any advise on what to do to upgrade to today's technology. Thanks!
I would install 4 stainless calipers, new stainless flex lines, organic pads to save the rotors and hydraboost. I have these upgrades along with removing the proportioning valve or whatever you want to call it and my brakes are STRONG.
Talk to the guys at Vette Brakes or SSBC, they'll get you setup with everything you need. Vette Brakes is a supporting vendor of the forum too

DID we WASTE our money on the Aluminum Calipers and stuff from Corvette Central? Also Heard of hydroboost where do you get it?
Hawk HPS pads and ATE Super Blue fluid will be the best $$$ you can spend on your brakes. Stainless lines are just marketing. No need to replace the calipers unless they are leaking.
There are a few individuals and/or companies working on a C5 brake upgrade kit for our cars. If your not in a hurry it may be worth waiting to see how that develops. I have been waiting for this option for a while. Hopefully someone here can update on the develop of this kit.

The reason for going to steel calipers is due to caliper flex during braking. If you're braking that hard on the street you're doing something wrong. I'm not sure that there are tires avaiable for our cars that can take advantage of that sort of braking power. Maybe with the hydro-boost system you could generate enough power to flex the calipers.
