Which brand and size of fire extinquisher is best for a '68 convertible?
It's a cruiser and possibly for show. Not for racing.
Where would be the ideal place to keep it without it looking out of place
or getting in the way?
Where is the best place to buy it from? I saw a small chrome one in our local auto part store for $49, my friend said ..too small, bigger the better. Maybe I should have a fire truck follow me around. Ha, Ha.
Re: FIRE, FIRE.... Fire Extinquisher (hairinmotion)
I have a chrome Halon between the seats. Go with a Halotron bottle as they don't sell halon bottles anymore. Dry chemical will make a huge mess & is almost impossible to clean up.
Re: FIRE, FIRE.... Fire Extinquisher (norvalwilhelm)
Same as Norval. Top of driver side rear wheel well. Fits nice & snug. I don't have the first clue whether the 2.5lb I have would be adequate for an engine fire or not.
Re: FIRE, FIRE.... Fire Extinquisher (hairinmotion)
As a firefighter I would totally agree with the comments made about the mess the dry chemical fire extinguisher would make. The Halon might be the better way to go as it certainly causes less clean up but if its windy, the Halon is less useful. A CO2 extinguisher extinguisher would work well on an electrical fire but wouldn't work well on any interior fire. So now that you are totally confused, the object is don't have a fire! But just in case having any working extinguisher is far better than none at all!
My pair have lasted 15 years. And my carpets have never been touched by a human foot or boot. They are original. Wonderful product!
Thw Wife bought me a new pair for Christmas for show events and the like. The newer ones are carpeted and come only in black. I used doeskin dye and Krylon transparent sealer on them. I am happy with the outcome.
Re: FIRE, FIRE.... Fire Extinquisher (hairinmotion)
I've got 3 unused fire extinguishers, and one that I used once to put out a tranny fluid fire.
And yes, tranny fluid will catch fire :mad
especially if it soaks into your header wrap
I got the extinguishers for about $8 each.
I have so many 'cause, really, you never know what'll happen.
Plus, I can lend a hand if I see some poor sap having a car fire on the side of the freeway.

Here's mine.
These cars aren't getting any younger, and don't have near the level of safety engineering you might expect. I'd encourage all of us to carry one of these.
And check out VetteDan's website for a bolt-in fire extinguisher and bracket. Easy installation, and it's designed specifically for your 'vette. http://www.vetteworksonline.com/

The little ones are purdy but if you actually have a fire and your pride and joy is burning to the ground you will be glad you bought a big one and put it in the storage compartment behind passenger seat, you can always get a small chrome one for the windshield pillar too. :D
