I am not getting a spark to the plugs, but I have spark at the cap - I can get a spark on the poles of the cap. I have tried several cables, but nothing gets to the plug. I find it hard to believe that ALL of the new and the old cables are bad. What could this be? I replaced the cap and rotor, but that did not do anything either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm not going for it!
What are the pieces of the puzzle we are missing? Your short message leaves lots of questions. Tell us what started this ordeal to begin with. What kind of dist and wires are you running? How are you checking the spark at the cap?
I just completed an engine rebuild and it will not start at all. The old plugs and cables were replaced with new ones before the initial start atempt. I then checked to see if there was anything getting to the plugs, and there was not any. I then replaced the cap and rotor thinking that was the problem, but it was not. I took replaced the coil thinking it was that, but again it was not it. With the top of the cap off, I was able to get a spark from the poles to the coils - sequentially of course. I am guessing that this means there is power at the poles - I could be mistaken of course. Does that answer your question?
