I cracked my posi case after 20 passes on Drag Radials.. I upgraded the posi unit to a Auburn unit.. and pulled 1.591 60' time... and many mid 1.60's 60' times and so far didn't break it...

My half shafts and u-joints are Spicer. I had no idea that Spicer made the half shafts too. Ca anyone give me any info on this? By the way, unless you are cranking out 450 hp and using slicks, I think the rearend is pretty sturdy. I was going to do alot of mods to mine, but the local hot rod guy who has been doing Corvettes for 30 years has told me that almost anything over the stock rearend is overkill. He even talked me into using the stock u-joint straps because those are even better than alot of the aftermarket type. Of course all of these things are matters of opinion. Any moving part has the potential of breaking. As stated, the posi can wear out, the spindles can snap, the bearings can crap out on you, but that is usually attributed to age and/or incorrect run-out....Hope this helps....

I, too, have rear-end concerns. I'll be building an upgraded Cross-Fire (quit laughing!) in the next year, approx 325 HP, and a 125 HP-shot of N2O, for my '82. I know the '80-'82 rear is different from the '65-'79 version. While at the strip, I'll be using BFG Drag Radials, for added traction, in hopes of running 12s. What, if ANYTHING, can be done to strengthen the '80-'82 DANA 44 rear ends? Thanks for the advice, in advance..... :chevy
