Default Shavin the Choke Tower????

I have a RPM Air Gap that I am going to be installing on my 76 vette, but first I need to have the Choke Tower shaved off my Holley 770. Does anyone know of a place in south Georgia or north Florida that will do that? Also what will be the status of my choke? Will I be able to use it anymore? Thanks :chevy

If you shave off the choke tower, you will no longer have an operational choke. Might not matter seeing that you're from warm weather Georgia.

Take off the top of the carb, and use the side of a large grinder wheel. Then fill the chok rod hole with silicon...

You don't need a choke even if its 20 degs.. I run that way all the time..

I did this at home with a hacksaw and a dremel tool.
Where the choke rod went, I used a piece of the removed choke tower, cut it into a rectangle, and slid it into place to cover the choke rod hole.
Of course, my home job probablt doesn't look as good as a mill job, but I cleaned it all up with a dremel.
One word of warning, though, I did NOT see one smidgen of better tuning or performance from this modification. It might look cooler without the tower, but to an average street motor, it probably wont give you an inch of performance. I assume you're chopping the tower to get some underhood clearance for the air gap manifold...
Are you planning on using a spacer between the manifold and carb??

As far as running without a choke... yes you can get away with it...
but both my machinist and tranny guy say that this is a bad move in colder climates, due to the excessive gas necessary to keep the motor idling- (I personally have to massage the gas pedal for the first minute to keep her running 'cause I have no choke) - this excessive gas will washdown the cylinder walls and contribute to premature ring wear.

Once you chop the tower off, I see no way that you can have a choke... you might be able to rig together something that'll raise the rpm at idle, but your just opening the butterflies more, not restricting the flow like the choke plate does.

Clink69, where did you get your 2" drop base. Only one I can find is 1 1/4. It will not work.
