Hi,
Hopefully I'll be getting my 69 out of the body shop sometime soon, but this has me worried about insurance. I currently have the car on my regular policy, which means if the car is wrecked or driven away, I'll get say $50 for it. Does anyone have any recommendations on what company and or type of insurance to carry on the car? It's not a daily driver, but I do use the car for the evening drives etc.
You might contact Parish-Heacock Insurance...1 800 678 5173
Obviously, you have a second car, or more, so you will qualify. There are various plans available based on agreed car value, annual mileage, etc.
As an example: my '93 is insured for $22K with $500 deductible, and the annual miles are limited at 3000. My annual premium is $364. There is no inspection of the vehicle. You will need to provide a photo of the car.

With six cars, that is all the attention my vette gets. Four round trips to Reno from Santa Cruz (600 miles RT) plus 600 pleasure miles. With my gimpy knees, 3000 miles with a 6-speed is plenty.
Go to Hagerty.com. Unlimited mileage, no deductible, agreed value.. Send a picture, proof of another car in the house with insurance.. Done. Mine is $150 for the year agreed value 20K <71 Convertible> :hurray:

I have 3 cars.. During the last 12 months... I put 35k on my daily driver, 12k miles on my 68' Vert and 8k on my 80 Vert..
I just bought a 98 Vert and already put 2k miles on it (in 3 weeks)...
Who is your main carrier? I use state farm classic Insurace ........I pay 170 bucks for full coverage and towing as well...Part of my Fleet policy..18k ageed value
I have Hagerty also. $272/yr., full coverage, no deductible, no mileage restrictions, $17,000 agreed value.
A couple of points need to be made regarding classic/collector policies, IMO. First, it's important to get agreed value rather than stated value coverage. With agreed value, you tell the underwriter what you think the car is worth, and if they agree with this figure, it will be listed on the declarations page of the ploicy in black and white. This is the exact amount you will be paid if the vehicle is totaled, lost, or stolen and unrecovered.
Stated value coverage is pretty much what ordinary car insurance is. Your idea of the vehicle's value and the insurer's will probably be vastly different. To them, it'll likely be considered a 25 or 30 year old Chevy and you'll be compensated accordingly.
Secondly, there are naturally a few catches to these policies: Almost always you must have another car as a daily driver, and proof of its insurance coverage must be provided. Usually the collector car can't be driven to work. There may or may not be mileage limits - fortunately I don't have this. The car has to be kept in a locked garage. A professional appraisal may be required; if not they'll at least want pictures. Some of the more restrictive companies even forbid you to leave the vehicle unattended and only allow you to drive it in parades, shows and similar events.
Ask the various companies you're considering about these matters before you make a decision and you'll save yourself a lot of grief later.

Re: Insurance (Touringpro)
I just punched my car into Harerty's site. One thing that I'm curious about is that they don't cover uninsured motorist in TN. Insurance is now manditory in TN, so what happens if some bubba hits me that does not have insurance?
