My assembly manual doesn't have a good pic of the fans on '69s. Did the big block with air have a different fan that the BB without air? Does anybody have a good picture of a fan from a BB w/air? I picked up a fan at a garage sale that I was told was a "late 60's chevy big block" fan (might not be, but it was cheap). Just wondering if I may have lucked into a good original looking replacement for the flex fan I currently have.
Is it a clutch fan? How much did you pay for it? Those things arent cheap. you might be able to find a pic of one for your year in a Vette catalog like Zip or Ecklers.
There was a thread on the ncrs board about fan clutches and blades. It seems there were thee clutches used. Mine is the one with the bi-metallic strip. (not the coil) But I think they used whatever was on hand. The part number is one of the ones listed in the AIM (sheet A4 fans and belts) and the date is correct for my S/N so I believe it to be original. I can find the picture on my NCRS CD and send it to you if you want some pics.
Any numbers or codes on the fan or clutch? Checking my NCRS guide, "All original clutches seen so far have the SC stamp." SC= Sweitzer Clutch. A/C cars usually have a 7 blade fan (but sometimes 5), with part # and date code. Cars without A/C use a 5 blade fan.
If you have any interest in knowing what was original to your car I strongly recommend getting the NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide for your model year, even if you are not "into" all the NCRS "thing" :) It is a very useful and informative document!! :) MJ
