Hi,
Anybody know what's making the front end on my 69 sound like a donkey? It's most noticible when I go over a speed bump. It goes HEEE on the way up and HAWWW on the way down. If I press and rock the front from either side It just screeches away. I had the ball joints greased and silicone sprayed the sway bar ends. Still screechin' :banghead: Any ideas?
If you're using polygraphite sway bar mount bushings, try wrapping the bar where it contacts the bushings with teflon tape.(The white plumbers tape.)
This drove me nuts too,and worse yet I have no radio to drown out the HEE-HAW squeeks!
I had 2 cars that did that. The latter one being my Vette, and I am sure it was the control arm bushings. I had a whole poly front end kit done at Van Steel and the noise went away, so, I can't say 100% for sure it came from the control arm bushings because so many parts were replaced. :smash:
Hi All,
Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I've tried them all. I've been away or I'd have tried them sooner. I WD40'd pretty much the entire front end. I silicone sprayed it as well. I wrapped the sway bar bushings with teflon tape. :banghead:
I took her to Corvettes Unlimited. "It's the sway bar" he said. I told him what I'd done. He said they use a teflon spray. It made the squeaking somewhat quieter but it's still there. She goes back for a wheel alignment next week and they are going to take another look. I'll let you know how it works out.
Re: Help for a squeaking front end (gravismaximus)
She's back from Corvettes Unlimited any no more squeaks. Some white grease in the spring pockets and she's quiet as a mouse. I went back and forth over the speed bumps in the parking lot this morning and nary a sound. They also did a wheel alignment and she rides like a new car. So now I'm going to get new tires to replace the unevenly worn ones I'm riding on now (225/70/R15s). Any suggestions? I like big tires with white letters.
