Default How do i remove my center console?

How do I do it? I need to get in at the 8 track so i can attach my LED colour organ to it. So far i have removed all the screws i can see by the guages, the 2 bolts by the shifter and the 2 bolts under the center console. I think I have them all out but i need verification on this because the console won't come out. I guess it's time to throw out my Hayne's manual, it has not been useful for anything on my vette.

Are you trying to remove the instrument cluster or the center console?

Console goes like this

>remove console side plates (carpeted) 3 phillips screws each side
>place in a safe location
>remove two screws each side of console to metal bracketry
>remove two screws underside of console to guage cluster
>remove heater control plate - qty 3 (1/4" screw)
>disconnect electrical connectors to power windows and rear defrost
>disconnect ground and got lead to cigar lighter
>remove two screws center console to parking brake cover
note - it might be easier to access them if you remove two screws holding parking brake cover to drive tunnel
>remove shifter ball
>lift console plate off

If you are removing Guage cluster you need to

>remove screws (2) to center console
>remove screws (2) each side of guage cluster
>remove screws (2) top of cluster
>disconnect mounting strap from radio (if DIN chassis)
or
>remove ***** from radio (2)
>remove shaft nuts and washers from control shafts of radio
>pull the top of cluster down and towards you - GENTLY - until you can see console light - disconnect light
>pull further until you can access wiring harness connector - remove connector from back of cluster
>pull entire guage cluster away

et voila!

The Hayne's Manual is Ok but not the greatest. I found after I removed all the screws, I just popped off the console. You just have to fiddle with it a bit and it does come off very easily. :chevy

Aren't you forgetting the one screw that extends into the rear of the console and is inside the middle rear storage compartment. You have to take out the cardboard storage bin to be able to access the screw.

That one got me too, Jim. After fiddling around for better than an hour one evening I gave up and posted a question on the forum. Next day, the gods spoke and answer appeared--that's the great thing about the forum!

This thing is way too much hassle, i don't have a wrech thin enough to loosen the bolts on the **** shafts and my pliers keep slipping on it. I'm giving up, thanks anyways.
