Now that I have your attention...I have a 71 convertible, original 350/270 4spd and when I drive it with the top down I come home smelling of exhaust. Is this a common problem with C-3 convertibles or could it be something else? I have had the carb rebuilt, exhaust welded, and engine tuned up. I was considering side exhaust as a solution.
Any advice? Oh, the free beer... whoever can successfully help me solve this problem...

That's normal for C3's without catalytic converters (pre 75')...
I wouldn't consider that normal. I had the same problem with a coue. Ran with the tops off and rear window out. Someone pointed out that the fuel mixture might be the culprit, specifically that the car was running too lean. Jumped a few jet sizes, retimed her and bingo - no more smell.
I have the same problem, kinda. I smell more of gas. After some investigation, my carb leaks a little at the back. After a while I have a small poodle of gas on the manifold (that gives you a warm fuzzy).
