Default stingray side emblem question

I just ordered the stingray emblem for the front fender of my 1970. It has a sticky foam on the back and a black coating around the edges that the original emblems do not have. The box that the emblem came in says genuine gm for '69-'76. I don't really like the black coating and am not sure if it is right. I like the all chrome look of what is already on the car but it is old and faded. has the coating just worn off of the original emblems or did Mid America send me the wrong part? any help is much appreciated. thanks

You purchased a GM REPLACEMENT PART, which differs slightly from the original. Next time try searching for your part as NOS (new old stock)

The replacement part you received has a black backing with the actual adhesive, which is exposed after removing what is generally a green plastic backing. If you're referring to the black "sillouette" look at the back/bottom of the emblem (depending on how you're looking at it), that was standard from the factory.

I think I am going to send the emblems back. factory or not, I don't like the black sillouette. It doesn't look good with the blue that I am planning on having it painted. I am thinking I will just have the old ones chromed. Thanks for the input.
