I run a 71 plate. Texas has a special program to permit this. Unfortunately, some patrolmen don't know about it. I've been stopped twice but no tickets.
rms73 I have these plates on three cars. In fact two are out of state, never had any problems with the different plates. There are restrictions on use(each state different) but I dont think the police know or care.I got the plates as soon ase I could. Saves me a boundle in insurance and yearly registration. clem68 :smash:
This is an attempt at hijacking a thread ;)
Is it true that only with an antique/vintage plate I can get a classic car insurance? I'm thinking about registering my baby as antique...
How much is a classic car insurance and where to get one? Any classic car insurers better than others?

That would entirely depend on what your state laws are. In Texas the issue of registration and insurance are independent. And yes, I do have YOM plates and have had no issues with police or anyone else.
I don't think that one has anything to do with the other. There are classic car insurers like Hagerty out there (do a search and you will find others). they all have some usage restrictions. I use Hagerty for the Corvette. Hagerty willnot insure my 83 Datsun because it is too new, so I use American Collectors Insurance. They are much more restrictive then Hagerty. In Maryland any car registered as an Historic vechile (over 25 years old) can display tags that were in effect the year the car was made. It costs and extra $12 and you must keep the new historic tags in the car.
Hijacking, not nice. You know what happens to hijackers in the US nowadays!
I have a current Va vanity plate and use Hagerty Insurance with no problems. Va is not a problem to get the vintage plates in use, you have to supply the DMV with a plate in good condition and pay a small one time fee $11.50, to use them. There are restrictions to vehicle use, but not a problem since I put less than 1000 miles on the car a year.
