Update: Vacuum advance issue settled
The rain finally ended long enough for me to get the car out and try the ported vacuum source for by vacuum advance. The car ran badly hooked up to the manifold vacuum, so I had really wanted to try the ported source. Unfortunately, this week has been a washout.
I had a few minutes to mess with it tonight, and the I have to admit the ported source makes my car run much better. Idle is better, and so is cruising. There does not seem to be nearly as much jerking, although I think I felt a little. I think I will take it back to the engine builder this weekend and have him check the timing and take a few minutes to tune it given that it has 1 week of operation under its belt.
At least I feel a lot better about the motor. It seems to be getting much closer to what I anticipated. Still too early to really see what it will do, but I am trying very hard to be patient and get a few miles on her.
