Default '81 window wobbles

I recently bought my first 'vette, luckily it seems to be {knocking on wood} in great shape. So, I've started knit picking at the small stuff...... My question is..... When my doors are open, my window glass can move 3/4 of an inch or better..... What can be done to fix this? Second question..... My dash lights used to work...... they went out.... I hit a bump, they came back on..... Hit another bump, went back off.... never to be seen again... I would think it is something simple like a loose wire or connector. Any recommendations on where to start looking? Driving via flash light sucks..... Thanks in advance for your information... This forum has been a great source of info so far, and I am sure I will refer to it even more often as I dig deeper into the new toy...

Could be the window rollers are worn out or loose. This could also make final window glass adjustment impossible. I am having one of mine replaced for my 79 on Fridayand the one roller is about 25.00.

This can be one of the most frustratiing jobs to do on your new toy. There are two rollers per window whether electric or not. There are also two window bumpers per window, one near the front and one near the rear. You can see these once you remove the inner door panel. If you're lucky, one or more of the bolts that hold the whole mechanism in place is just loose, there are a number of them. There are also a number of adustments for the window itself. Front to back travel, high and low settings, inboard and outboard travel...you get my point. I'm just tackling mine now and believe me...it's a PITA.....I'm going to work at it a little longer and if I get to frustrated..I might take it to a body shop for final adjustment..they do it all the time...But then again..that would be admitting defeat..
Good Luck.. :banghead:

hey, homie. :seeya i actually grew up in memphis, well southaven actually, but close enough.
when you say the window still moves 3/4", are you talking about up and down, forward and back or in and out?
the lights flickering off and on can certainly be a real pain. do you know if the electronic gauges still work when this happens? if they go out as well, it's most likely the plug in the back of the board has come loose and just makes intermittant connection. if the gauges work but not the lights, it's probably either a ground or the printed circuit thingy behind the dash is comming apart and your getting the intermittant opens. after 20+ years, you wouldn't believe how bad these things can look. they're basically individual 'runs' (not the official term, that's just what i call them) with a laminated plastic on either side. they are bare wherever there is a connection to be made. the problem is over years, the bare part of the runs begin to corrode, then that corrosion works between the plastic and loosens the laminate, then corrodes even further. yeesh. it just doesn't end.
either way, good luck finding your problem. ain't this fun? :p:
