Default Steering..what a difference....

while my car was in the shop getting a new spring, i had them check out the steering...turns out the linkages? were set up for a power steering car...they also checked out the steering box and it had gone dry...the heat off the headers...so it now feels like i have a very weak operating power steering...i cant believe the difference it made having it rebuilt....
the guy that worked on it is a 30 year guy and worked on the vettes for Davies corvette if any TO guys remember them...i wopuld highly recommend him for any suspension/steering/alignment jobs...

the heat off the headers dries it out....they filled it with a thicker oil this time...

I have always had powersteering in my car, but shortly after we got it up and running, excessive leaks killed the power system. While I waited for money to replace the control valve (yes we tried a rebuild) I drove without. Major pain, and got pretty scary on the highway! I remember going from that to power again... wow, what luxury :D I think changes like this are even better than adding power, you gotta have the basic driveability.

My car is coming up on 100K miles, and I am looking at things like this to have taken care of.

How much did it cost to take the box in and have it rebuilt ?

I hope they didn't use oil. If they did you'll be back soon enough for another rebuild. They should have used a high temp grease. Davie's is still around as well. He sends us a lot of bearing assemblies to get rebuilt.
