Default Piston recommendations.

Now that I have the block back and I have a new SCAT9000 crank what pistons should I go with? I was thinking about the KB signature series but don't know which ones. I want to make good hp and torque. Plan on running the gmpp 110cc aluminum heads. Any advice and part #'s are definately appreciated.

I'm running TRW forged L2399 pistons. The pistons have a slight dome to them. With 101cc heads they are good for 10.23:1 compression...on my motor I estimate I'm around 10.5:1 with 97cc chambers.

I'm not sure how much compression you are shooting for. I would imagine with 110cc chambered heads the pistons would put out around 9-9.5:1 compression.

You may want to look for something that will bring you closer to 10:1.

I would just try and plan the compression out to get around 10:1. If you stay around there you should still be able to run on pump gas. My zz4 runs pretty close to the edge down here with the heat in Louisiana.

:iagree: That's the setup I'm using, 110cc GMPP aluminum heads. I haven't got to the piston-valve clearance yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Guy at the engine shop thinks I should be OK since it's a slight dome. :D

1970 Stingray, what size and style cam are you running? Are you thinking that you may need to have the pistons cut for clearence?

Talk to an engine builder he will be able to figure out exactly what you need to get what you are looking for. Make sure you have the assembly balanced before you install it all. You'll regret it if you don't.

If you can swing it, I'd use a forged anything over a Hypereutectic anything. Hypers are better than regular cast, but they are still a long way from a strong forging.

Check out SRP's. They are a relativley lightweight forging at a reasonable cost. They are made of material that allows you to fit them very tight if you want to to help with oil control and noise. Mine are dead quiet. I recently had motor all apart for some HP upgrades after two years of running and they still look brand new.

I'll be using a Comp Cams 294 solid. I plan on check ing the clearance but so far most engine guys think I should be OK. The heads have 2.25 intakes.

1970 Stingray,

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to here how your combination runs it is almost exactly like mine but it will be atleast another year before mine will be up and running. I am tinkering with the idea of running the edelbrock dual quad setup. i know you get more hp out of a single carb but i'm not in to drag racing and the dual uqads look really cool. Thanks again.

Well, we may finish at the same time then. I've been assembling parts for over a year and really thought I'd be further along. So far I have most of the parts and I have the crank & 2 pistons in.

I'm running TRW forged pistons but for the dollar hypereutectic are a good deal.
Contrary to what most think they are stronger then forged pistons. The problem with them is they are like glass, extremely strong but if pushed beyond their limit they break.
A forged piston while weaker will bend if pushed. I have several pent forged pistons in my display case.
Still for the dollar hypers are good and alot of high horsepower motors are running them even with lite doses of nitrous.
I have hyper in my 355 nitrous mustang and don't worry about them.
