black braided nylong wire loom
Russell (fittings) sells something very similar to what your looking for, I know it's black, comes in various sizes. I believe it's heat resistant also.
It's called "Wrap it"... here's a link http://www.russellperformance.com/automotive/index.html then click on "Engine and Plumbing Acc".

Thanks for the link, that's not exactly what I'm looking for but if I can't find it, I might use that instead. The stuff I'm looking for isn't split. Thanks again.
Nevermind. I found it at Newark. Thanks anyway.

Is what you are looking for Expandable Sleeving? Try www.Delcity.net They also sell split, gray, clear, fabric (asphalt), and non-split loom.
I am not sure on the sleeving but I believe the stripe woven in indicates the temperature range (higher). The stuff Del City carries is designed to be melted on the end to finish the it.

We used to use that in prototype wiring harnesses when
I worked at a defense R+D lab. I used some at the time to cover my Mustang
heater hoses. It looked like you describe - black with a few fibers of yellow or
white woven through the length.
I'll try and contact some old friends at the lab and get a manufacturer/part#.

I ended up going with some stuff from Panduit, mostly because I recognized it from my military experience, and it has the heat, flame, abrasion, and fray resistance I wanted, as well as the tracer thread.
I figured it would go well with the ITT/Cannon "mil spec" circular connectors I use. I figured it would be more trick than the plastic corrugated wire loom normally used to protect wiring. So now I've got several hundred feet of this stuff in various diameters on the way.
Some old pics of the connector I use. Every electrical connection to the engine goes through this connector.
I'm converting to a distributorless ignition system, using 8 LS1 coils, and with the distributor out of the picture my engine wiring harness is going to be much more visible. The coils are going to be mounted down by the oil pan, and with spark plug wires only a few inches long, the ignition system won't be visible from above.
So I wanted to do something to "dress it up". I figured the combinaition of the circular connector and this braided sleeving would look neat, and it would contract with the aluminum and coated stuff.
