I am starting to clean up potential vacuum leaks. Most of my hoses feel like they are dry rotted and glued on. Does it matter what type of hose I put on as long as it fits? Is it best to order one of the kits with all color coded hoses?
I did my '68 two years ago with the "correct" Dr.Rebuild kit and yes, it does make it a whole lot easier, especially when it comes to identifying a problem or lines later. I don't think you'd regret getting the correct set for your car-I know I did'nt with my '68 convertible.
but on the other hand vacuum line is about $0.50 a foot from your local autoparts store. You could probably manage your own marking system, perhaps colored tape? Your choice, nothin' wrong with paying for convenience if you want it :D
I started replacing mine, and used the kits, sure was easier to use, especially with new plastic tees etc. Problem for me was the parts store had "generic" hoses, or braided gas line, and the ones they had were close but "no cigar". Proper colors help in later problems if know all your hoses are new, or fairly new. good luck. :D
what can i spray on my vacuum lines and not start a fire? i am going to order the lines for the headlights but i was wanting to check under the dash? is this a bad idea?
thanks,
Mike
I bought the kit simply because I was keeping mine as "correct" as possible. Certainly nothing wrong with tagging black vacuum hose you can by at Pep Boys or AutoZone! How orginal do you want to keep it?
Well I started with samples at local store. Most are close but not exact. Changed out the worst looking ones first. I may eventually order the kit and do them all.
The fat line that runs from the carb to the charcol canister is basically deteriating with black coming off as soon as you touch it. Problem is I can't see how it is connected at the canister and it doesn't want to budge off. I'm concerned if there is a special fitting on the canister, I don't want to break it off??? If not I'll keep pulling???

There must be a clamp holding it. I used a mirror to see what I was doing---but it must be a lot easier to reach it from under the car.
