Edelbrock Q-Jet vs Edelbrock perfomer carb
Hello, I want to purchase a new carb and wonder if I should go for Edelbrock square bore performer carb (like #1406, 600cfm with electric choke) or Edelbrock spread bore Q-Jet carb (like #1910, 850cfm with electric choke). I have Goodwrench engine and Edelbrock performer intake manifold #3701. Also, do I need any reduction? Thanks in advance :-)

What type of carb/intake do you have today? Is a carb rebuild an option? If rebuild is an option, check with Lars.

Rebuild is (sadly) not an option, I need the carb right here, right now. I stated the intake and I believe the carb is a stock one (1980 corvette).

1406 and also get the 1405 tuning kit (jets, etc..)
I have been wanting to try the 650 cfm Thunder series from Edelbrock, adjustable sec. kick in time.

Hi
The Edelbrock 1904 should do the trick. Check with http://www.edelbrock.com at their tech helpline who are very helpful

I have the same intake and the elec choke performer carb. Most say it's good to go out of the box but, I've had problems since day one with it. Can't figure out the flooding all around the base. drips down on my intake. new gaskets, filter, tried adjustments. Stains & fire hazards. Maybe the q-jet is better? Wishing I had shopped around!

This is NOT typical. I'd get in touch with Edelbrock, it sounds like fautly manufacturing and they SHOULD cover it under warranty. Don't go throwing your money away on a replacement until you give Edelbrock a chance to do right by you.
Good luck!

Don't know if this'll answer your question completely, but in a week of searching on eBay, I found 8 billion 1400-series (Carter AFB-style) carbs up for auction, while only one 1900 series (Edelbrock Q-Jet).
Yes, I know the 1400s could also be used on Fords and Mopars, but the sheer # of them vs the lack of Edelbrock carbs might mean something.

Personally, I'd go with the Edelbrock Q-Jet. In fact, that's what I did! If you go to a square bore carb, you'll have to change the intake, too (or perhaps there's an adapter -- I don't know). But go with a 1903 or 1904. The 850 cfm is too big for your application.

Depending on how tough your State is.........I still like the Holley carbs that we have used for years.
Currently running a 650 double pump carb. Very solid low 13 sec 1/4 miles on a ZZ4 engined '79. Very well mannered for cruising too.

For Midwest vette, Check your float adjustments, Edelbrocks for some reason come out of the box with the floats out of wack. Do you have the correct carb to intake adaptor- squarebore to spreadbore? Fuel pump pressure could be an issue. Hope this helps.

I agree. 795CFM is a lot for a small block unless you have real high comp ratio. Even SO, it is still a lot. The 1910 is 850 CFM and not emissions legal.
If your car currently has the hot air style choke then the 1903 is the direct smog legal replacement. 795 CFM

Re: Edelbrock Q-Jet vs Edelbrock perfomer carb (GR8T WYT)
I originaly tried a performer on my 71 with the stock manifold, but with the adapter which has to be used I couldn't close the hood with any aircleaner I could find. The stock air cleaner will not fit. Thus I went with a new Q-Jet.
