External Tach Hookup
I have a sears multifunction diagnostic meter. I wanted to check my tach against what the diag meter RPM says. How do I hook up to the HEI? I see one large red wire, 3 smaller wires and an empty plug at the distributor. What/how do I hook up the clip from the meter. Thanks.

Usually on top of the connector cap. Wet your finger and rub the cap then get a flashlight and look for TACH. I have installed a spade lug on the terminal and run the wire up out to the fender wall where it is easy to get to. Makes setting idle and timing much easier looking at the dwell tach rather than hollering to a driver "what is it now?

Thanks.. I looked at it last night and saw the two plugs.. on said Batt and the other said Tach. The tach one had two wires comming out of the plug. One I presume goes to the tach in the car.. the other has a plug on the end about 4 inches away so I'm guessing I'm all set. I'm going to try and unplug this connection and make sure the tach in the car stops working just to be sure.. Belt and suspenders sort of thing.. :D Thanks again.. :cheers:
