Default ZIP Problems!!!

So, I ordered a control valve, castle nut and pitman arm Friday night with an overnight delivery.

Monday I called to confirm order. Found out that the pitman arm was not in stock. So we agreed to delete this item and send the control valve and castle nut overnight.

Did not come Tuesday, so called Wednesday.

Found out nothing shipped. They thought they had 12 pitman arms in stock and found 0 on stock - what happened to my Monday conversation? So, they did NOTHING, repeat NOTHING.

In the conversation Wednesday, they ask if I still want the control valve and castle nut. Hello! What happened to the Monday conversation?

Anyway, maybe the control valve, etc. is on the way, maybe not. If it shows up Friday I will know. Otherwise, I will sit wondering if another conversation with ZIP went nowhere.

In the meantime, ordered the pitman arm from Paragon Tuesday, and, lo and behold, it shows up today, Wednesday at work. Hummmm, just as advertised.

So, what does all the above say about ZIP?

Last time I order from them.

Larry, It is unfortunate that this happened to you, but I have dealt with them many times and have always had nothing but excellent service. I'm sure that your experience is not typical of ZIP. Maybe someone dropped the ball, but that does happen to any business once in a while. I will continue to use them. Craig

Wow, that is surprising to hear. I've had nothing but great service from them and I also will continue to use them. Things do go wrong but it's how they handle their mistakes that make a difference. Unfortunatley it seems they did nothing to correct it. I've had one overnight shipment arrive late, so they credited me the air freight charge. Good luck! :seeya

I'm waiting on a backordered part at ZIP - but they were very prompt to
reply by email to inform me. I was OK with waiting. Then a few days later, I
emailed the guy handling it and added another part to the order painlessly.
I'm still waiting, but I'm in no rush.

It's unfortunate that someone left you hanging like that. I've had none but
good experiences with ZIP. Also, they have their own forum here - for
technical inquiries.

i buy almost exclusively from Zip and will continue to do so...
their professionalism has been way beyond my expectations every time...
i have had a couple of "problems" during the scores of dealings i have had with them and they took care of them promtly and efficeintly both times...
i suspect that you may have been unfortunate enough to get a "new guy" and that he will eventually get weeded out...
my advise is dont give up on them so easily because i consider them to be one of the very best at what they do...
also...i own a business and have for over 20 years and as hard as i try, sometimes things just go wrong...and ironicly (sp) it is usually the deal that goes wrong that seems to keep screwing up...
call back and talk to customer service...be nice...be polite...and i guarantee that they will bend over backwards to make you happy...
good luck!

The last few times I called ZIP I was disappointed. They listed parts on their website that they no longer carry and have not carried in a while. Most of the people I have talked to were nothing but phone jockeys with Corvette catalogs. They didn't seem to know anything about the cars or the parts.

First off, I would like to say that I apologize for the problems with this particular order. The pitman arm did show twelve in stock; but unfortunately they are used (reconditioned) parts and they tend to be inventoried a little differently than our new parts. The one in charge of our reconditioned inventory (Justin A.) looked for those arms for two days with no luck; it appears that we had a computer error.

The other items (the slotted hex nut and control valve) are leaving for you today via UPS Two Day Air (per your conversation with Justin M.). We'll pick up the shipping due to the problems you have had with this order. You will have those two items on Monday, guaranteed.

If there are any problems, let me know... we'll get them resolved as quickly as possible. Again I apologize for any inconvenience with this order. If you need anything else, feel free to contact me at wtaylor@zip-corvette.com.

I hope that helps!

Nice to see a vendor who follows this forum with a cool head to correct the problem. I had 1 problem with Zip 2 years ago with a part I bought a year before and hadn't used. ZIP quickly resolved the problem without any nasty threats from either party involved.

I've never ordered from Zip. But I'd recommend Summit for parts. I had a defective cam and lifter set in my 454, that I run for less than 1000 miles. I called them up, they sent me a cam with free next day air, then reimbursed me after I sent my old cam and lifters in. I was working with a very limited time, and they worked it out with me. For Summit:

While there is still some room on the bandwagon, let me climb up in there....yeah, that's the spot. Your experience has been completely counter to the norm for ZIP's well deserved excellent reputation. Of course, nothing is always perfect with any company and occasional problems do arise. But what you have to look at in this as far as how well ZIP treats its customers and goes to great lengths to make things right. You can see that in Wes' public response to your problem. And he had to make some effort to find your post so he's looking for feedback...good or bad. He didn't hide, make ambiguous excuses, deny it, or try to make it sound like it's your fault.

I have had excellent service from ZIP and Wes. Sorry to hear your experience didn't go as well but I think that you'll find that if you give them another shot that you'll find your current experience to be the exception rather than the rule when dealing with ZIP.

I too have ordered tons of stuff from them, but lately say the last 3 orders, things have either gone really wrong (shipped when they said they were out of stock and I ended up with parts from them and someone else), or just confused salesperson, no calls back etc. I think they are trying but they have at least one salesman who is lousy.
My most recent was a drop shipment, small $40 order, that I ordered through Zip but was drop shipped by another supplier. Wrong parts arrive, I call Zip, they tell me they would have to look into whether it was their fault or the other supplier. "Hello, you have my money, so I would say you should fix it" They did eventually, 1 week and 3 phone calls, but really, it shouldn't be this hard. :nono:

I've worked with Summit on several things as well and am *VERY* satisfied with their service. I ordered drilled rotors for our Camry and they sent the wrong ones, which very embarrassingly for me I installed without noticing they were slightly smaller (sent the 4 cylinder instead of 6 cylinder size)... Several months later Les Schwab caught the problem when my wife had new tires installed. Summit had the correct set out to my house in no time at no cost to me and told us not to worry about sending the by now somewhat used set of improper rotors back.

I have also been very happy with Zip in my dealings so far. I've got some parts on order now that are backordered, no problem for me, I have so many projects going on that I'll happily wait for the right parts at the right price rather than going some other route.

Zip's been good to me on several occasions. I usually buy from them through the internet, but the last time I stopped in their Richmond store. I forgot to get the forum discount. Days later, I emailed and told them and they looked up my receipt and credited my account for the amount of the discount. They mailed me the credit card slip for the transaction a couple days later. Way

I've also found Summit's service to be outstanding.

Larry, Sorry to hear of the problems but it sounds like Zip is trying to make things right. (Which is more than I can say of some other parts vendors!) Personally I've had only one problem in several years and thousands of dollars  and that was because an item didn't meet my quality / originality expectations - and Zip took it back promptly with no hassles. ~Juliet

I have used Zip for years with very few problems. Anytime the wrong part came, or was damaged, they paid the freight back and sent me a new one. NO questions asked other than what was wrong. Twice they shiped out the part before i sent the defective one back. They have been outstanding in everyway to deal with. They are without any question my first choice for parts. robert
