The other day I was southbound in the right lane of a 2 lane service road looking for a hole in traffic in the left lane so I could get on the southbound I-35 entrance ramp. This is in south Austin just south of the Ben White/I-35 intersection. In the left lane there was a white BMW just ahead of me about one car length. The guy behind him in a Ford p/u must have seen me scanning for a hole and he was closing the gap behind the BMW fast. The entrance ramp was coming up pretty quick and I thought, ' I could break hard and try to find space behind the p/u, but then everybody behind me would be wasting some serious break pad to accomodate me, or, I could speed up and jump into that HUGE gap in front of the bmw. Well, I didn't want to encumber the friendly drivers behind me so since I had a few extra horses on tap I decided to jump in front of the bmw. So with a slightly *downward* throttle adjustment I quickly passed up the Beemer, got about 6 or 7 car lengths ahead and moved left. A few seconds later I look in my rear view and see the beemer closing at a rather tepid pace, the drivers "german[or is it french] flag pole" (middle finger) raised in defiance. I though to myself ... 'Wow, wonder what his problem is'. Then it dawned on me, the ars-hole must've had his foot buried in it, accelerating to try and keep me out. Huh, I didn't even notice. I laughed to myself about it and thought...He probably wasn't flipping me the French flag pole he was flipping off his $45K car for it's abysmal performance. He was just blown away by a 30 year old Chevrolet that needs a paint job. Haha!
Vette on !!!
dr
And it was really nice of you to think about those other drivers behind you. They are all too often forgotten :steering:
:iagree: I hate people who brake to change lanes. :cuss They are usually going to slow and the traffic in the lane they want to go in is moving much faster and they cant get over. If they would just speed up a little and match the speed of traffic they could easily move into one of the many holes. Ok, im done.
My drive to work is 28 miles each way and on a two lane road with a double-nickle speed limit. It is a great car for passing, :yesnod: Petal to the metal and drop it in 2 (th350) untill 5500 RPM then into 3rd. :D
I ride a motorcycle as well as drive a LS-5 vette. I read Keith Code's Twist of a Wrist on Motorcycle racing and fast riding. Basicly it all comes down to "when in doubt give it gas". Good moto for a vette too. All too often I get out of trouble with the right foot or right wrist, depending on mode of transpo!
Theres a whole crowd out there that has bought into the " japan/German sportscar are the best over all US cars" attitude! We vette people take pride in showing them the truth!!!
Re: this is why I drive a vette... (sharkthehunter77)
for years and years now, I"m SO used to just press the pedal and GO!!!, that I don't even notice these days.....it takes some serious gear to come up and blind side pass me at very high speed to blow me away....
I really like your story! Also I would like to add that your C3 (or any C3!) is 10,000% sexier than any overpriced, haughty, boorish, ****-retentive BMW could ever hope to be  :seeya
