Engine Block numbers
I'ed kinda like to restore them back as this is the original block but I've checked with places that specalise in renting the number stamps and found them higher than a down payment on a Z06.
I know the original tools were individual stampes clamped into a special holder but I think I can buy stamp sets for less than $50.00 and practise and experiament, on something other than my block, until I get them to look like I have the holder set. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS???
Since mine are wiped out and I didn't have the foresight to measure them, I'm not sure of the character size. I think there were two sizes though. That is, there were two rows of numbers and each row was a different size. Does anyone know what the proper sizes are??
1. The people that want to charge you big bucks to restamp your numbers know they are taking a risk. In most states this is highly illegal, and can only be done under the supervision on the State DMV and they have strick guide lines.
2. There were 40,614 , 1980 Corvettes produced. Not a very rare number. Horsepower was 180 to 230. Nothing collectible there.
Please understand, I am not saying anything negative about this model, but it will probally not ever hit collectible status in my or your lifetime.
Don't worry about the numbers missing. They are gone. Just drive and enjoy, and I doubt it will effect resale very much.
There is no legal significance to any engine number. In fact they aren't even used any more. New cars don't have them and there is no state or federal regulations concerning them.
I just want to keep as much originality as possiable.
