Since i will be catering to the c3 crowd i thought i would post in this area. As you guy's know i am going online with corvetteworks as a new and used parts supplier. Where i am having some dificulty is in the technical service area. The site will work just as any of the other supplier sites do. The problem is going to be that i will not have anyone to work the phone for tech questions. I have to continue to work my normal engineering job, and will not be available to take calls all day long. How much of a problem do you think this is going to be. How often when you guys are shopping online do you need to call the company for questions? Would it be a big turn off if you had to email your question and wait for a response? Your input to this will be greatly appreciated.
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (sdixon)
The only time I've had issues ordering online is when they required me call in my order and they send me the wrong side because they wrote it down wrong :cuss
For technical issues I always go to the forums for a totally unbiassed 3rd party take and almost never ask the vendor crap unless I've already estabished a positive relationship with them.
So to answer your question, I'm cool with it
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (sdixon)
I think you will lose a little business but being that it's a web page it probably won't be that bad. Some internet buyers still like to talk in person. I do that quite a bit. Still, if you don't list a phone number at all they really won't have a choice. Judging by my eBay sales, you will probably get a few emails asking for a contact number or a phone call.
If you find the need for phone service you could always hire an answering service. They can write down what the customer needs and tell them you will get back to them. Returning calls might not be cheap though.
In any event, you already know you have to keep the other job. So I don't see how you have a choice at this point.

I was planning on changing my cell phone to a business line. That way i can take a least a few calls during the day. Otherwise they would be able to leava a message.
Hey Larry, did you ever use that a/c stuff you gor from me? I came accross a condensor from a 1969. You had mentioned that you wanted one back then?
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (sdixon)
Actually, I sold the car it was for before I had time to convert it. I used a few pieces on the 69 when I got the AC working. The rest is just waiting for the next one. Don't need the condenser right now though.
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (sdixon)
I don't feel it is a big deal.
I really prefere to do most or all comunications by email. Little chance that way for getting the information wrong. I never expect an "imediate" response to them either. (its a nice surprize when they do) Also there is a documented record of who said what and when. Phones are for extreme situations where an email would be too combersome to convey the message. Then it could easily wait till a convenient hour.
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (arrio76)
Well, i feel alot better knowing that people will feel comfortable asking there tech questions via email. I will still have a phone number listed on the site that will go to an ansewering machine. I also like the idea of having an explanation on the site about why the email would be the prefered method of contact.
Thje site is nearing completion right now. "Twinturbo" from the forum is developing it for me. I got to say this guy is good. I am going to include a link to the site but keep in mind it is not functional for purchases yet. Hopefully next month. http://www.corvetteworks.us/index.jsp

Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (Desertdawg)
I'll tell you what, If it was not for our fellow forum member, Twinturbo, putting this killer website together for me i would be dead in the water. Thanks to him i may actually be up and running in the very near future. I am just trying to figure out what parts to put on the site first. I will basically be offering whatever you see in Ecklers and Corvette americas catalog. Problem is getting all those products loaded onto my website. Lot's of work!!! :nopity
Re: need input regarding my corvetteworks website (sdixon)
That's looking really good. Good work to both of you. I think that if you explain that you can only answer tech question via e-mail most will understand.
