Had a great time autocrossing this morning :hurray: .
While I'm not the best driver behind the wheel, I did have the 2nd fastest time out of the Corvettes there. Only a Z06 that was trailored in running race tires went faster than me with my street driven car with street tires :D .
The 1st lap I took it easy, getting familiar with the course - 51 secs
2nd time out alittle more agressive - 48 secs
3rd times a charm at - 46.2 secs
And last run was a 46.1 compared to the Z06 running a 44.6 sec.
Had a blast today. What a way to enjoy our ole C3's :D :chevy
:hurray: Congrats! I love Autocrossing. One day my baby will be in good enough shape for it :D
Where was it?
What car was fastest of em all?
How many C3s were there?
It was in the back of a local mall in Syracuse. There were 117 cars running, many quicker than the vettes. It always seems that the small lighter cars do very well on these courses. Today's was very tight in some of the corners  ! The fastest car may have been one of those indy style cars running 43 seconds.
There was only 1 other C3 there and the others were C4's.
Thanks Dave ! Amy stays at home when she knows I'm going to do alittle leg stretching ;) .
I hope the next time I make it to BG, I'll be confident enough to run with the other vettes. If I broke in BG, I could just imagine the tow truck drivers face when I tell hm to take it back home  . I guess I'm just waiting for Rolling Thunders Grand appearance before tracking back down :chevy . Take care Dave
Cool. I wanna autocross sometime too. That way I can really see what the car is capable of and learn how it handles when pushed to the limit, and beyond of coarse. Hate to figure that out on a street lined with telephone poles if you know what I mean. I bet ive not come close to breaking it loose in a turn. I get scared when driving fast and maintaining thru a turn. But at slower speeds like traffic circles, I love powering thru those. The car seems much more predictable when im applying hard on the throttle and the nose is up. But at higher speeds and sweeping thru wider turns, like on the highway, I hit a little bump and the body raises and shifts sideways a tad, that scares me. So how did it handle? Did it impress you?
Jvette, I think you will see a big difference when autocrossing compared to the traffic circles. You are constantly changing directions when you autocross. I'm getting much more comfortable with my car now that I've done this a couple of times. I find that steering out of the corners with my rear tires seems to help my times :D . For anyone that wants to see what their car is capable of they should try this at least once, going slow at first until you get more comfortable with the course ;) . But be forewarned: It can be VERY addictive !
SmokedTires, theres a small traffic circle near here. No traffic lights. Its the kind where you just yeild to anyone already in the circle. I usually need to go half way around the circle. Im always lookin way in advance in hopes that no one else in or around the circle. I slow before entering in a right turn, then accelerate around the circle to the left, as soon as I turn right back outa the circle theres another sharp left. So in a short time frame Im going right, left, right left. I love it. definatly both hands on the wheel shuffeling it back and forth while steady on the throttle and really gasin it out on the final right left. The car sweeps thru nicely. Its fun as heck. I cut thru so quick sometimes its almost like it isnt there.

Sounds like you'll be all practiced up by the time you autocross  .
Good time Smoked Tyres! I did some Autocrossing in Houton when I was there, in a Subaru Impreza great fun! But not a vette!
In the UK by the way a U.S.A. type autocross is called a sprint. Here an autocross would be on rough ground with 2 rally type cars running round a short circuit at the same time with fastest times counting for the scoring, not first past the post. :D
Please list your suspension mods and set up and brand and size of tires.
thanks and congrats.
Everything is pretty much in my sig with except maybe the 1" smaller diameter steering wheel. Also all bushings have been replaced with poly-ureathane for less deflection. The VB&P front shock tower brace & 4 point rollbar also helps stiffen chassis flex. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, everything is a bolt on option with the exception of the rollbar. :)
That cone in the way? That brings back memories of go-kart racing days, my nick-name was cone killer, dam that was fun, sure wish there was a place around here to autocross my vette!
Congradulations on your runs! I plan to try autocrossing for the first time the last weekend in May at the Cumberland Airport. We have a .89 mile course layed out and hope to make it an anual event like the SCCA races that took place there in the 60s and early 70s. There will be a lot of vintage racers there for an exhibition race on Friday night, a car show on the down town Cumberland Mall featuring the vintage racers, corvettes and porches on Saturday, and an autocross open to the public on Sunday. I don't know how competitive my car will be in street trim but I am sure I will have fun making lots of smoke and noise.
Vettedreams- I was actually thinking maybe I should change my name to ConeKiller
ZL1 your car should be a real handful when your out there  ! You will definitely need to learn throttle control when you autocross :yesnod: . Be sure to let us know your impressions and how you do :smash:
Gkull- they put in the BP class, whatever that means
