Excellant day Bence, see man, just drop another thenh off the 60' and yur in the 11's. If yur gonna go home, might as well do it on yur own accord by running out like you did. all in all, a great day in my opinion. Congrats

Jim:
Thanks Jim, I'm not sure I would have been able to do it without your help along with everyone elses here on the Corvette Forum. Slowly but surely the ET is coming down. I made all of the passes shifting at 6300RPMs. At the next test and tune I may try raising and lowering my shift points to see if there is anything more to be gained. Right now I really need to concentrate on the 60's that's what is killing me right now. Had I pulled a 1.70 60' on that last pass I would have most likely been in the 11s yesterday.

I'm really wanting to step my cam up to the 306S but I'm going to prolong that until I have run as best as I think I can with the 294S. I am also looking into picking up a pair of 26x10 slicks like you said. I'm not sure what RPM I was at when I crossed the traps (everything just happens so quickly) but I think it may have been approaching 6300RPMs. I'll have to take notice of that the next time I go to test and tune (possibly this Thursday).

I still haven't gotten around to installing that line lock yet. Jumping on the brakes in the burnout box seems to work just fine (a little harder on the rear brakes, but it still works). I have also thought about powershifting but have decided not to because I want my tranny to last as long as possible.

I think the most satisfying thing of it all is knowing that I assembled the motor all on my own so all of the MPH that I am experiencing is from what I have assembled and all of the ETs that I am seeing are from me driving and shifting every gear.

Shane,

Great job, mid 11s are on the way. Looks that that one guy went on the wrong green 1.4 RT

What pressure are you running those ETs? I have seen people running down to 6 psi on slicks with screws. I bet you can get your 60 down to 1.6 or so...

Clink:
I run 18lbs of pressure in the ET Streets. It's not like they are spinning on me...when I launch they are hooked solid. It's hard to describe what they do but I think it's partly my fault. I go to launch it and it will bog because I'm not giving it enough gas and then when I do give it enough gas it hops all over the place (NOT wheel hop). You'd really have to see it in person. My buddy was teasing me about it. He said "nice run, the launch wasn't too sweet but you're pulling great MPHs for all the faster your car is running."

Shane, what carb are you using? Have you dynoed the car and checked A/F ratio yet? If not, you may be able to get rid of the bog on launch by setting up A/F right. If you're too lean on the secondaries, that could cause a bog on launch. Also, just after you light the pre-stage light, rev the engine up to about 4 grand a couple times to clean it out. Then stage the rest of the way. Doing that decreased my 60 ft. time by about a tenth or more. And it looks like that's about all you need to get into the 11's. ;)

Another thing, if you decide to bracket race more often, you may want to get a shift light, it will help you be more consistent. I know that right now you are just wanting to get the best possible time right now, but consistency is the key to bracket racing and a shift light can definitely help with that part.

I got to race a newer white Cobra Mustang with a supercharger... So I lost.
So let's get this straight...

If memory serves... that makes TWO losses, and BOTH to Rustangs?! Forget just the 11s, I think there is a bigger purpose here! :jester

bence, I saw your 2nd time-run, but missed your initial run, and left before eliminations began. The 2nd launch looked like a wild ride, similiar to a bucking-bronco! When your 60's come around, you should be into the 11s. My Z28 runs 12.80s @ 107+, yet it 60's at 1.81-1.83 (this is deep-staging, which KILLS 60' times, as well as 1/8 & 1/4-mile ET, too). I raced Tim Dotts in his C3 @ Maple Grove in '92; my ET slips say he was going going 12.38-12.40 @ 109+ MPH that weekend.

Shane, don't beat yourself up man. That was some excellent driving from the numbers. .517 R/T is the word!

Your 60' times are nothing to snort at. I think you can rest now. The car is making it down the track in one piece and doing a heck of a job scaring that 11 second barrier. Also consider that once you start getting into the 11's you will be looking at a having to get a roll bar...is that right? Or is it the 9's?

As far as bracket racing is concerned...I think you may WANT to get back in that line. If you really want to see whether your tweaks are doing anything for you then test and tunes can help you work on which tweak you are going to use, and the bracket racing will give you that incentive to keep things consistant in your driving so that it's the car that will be changed.

But, most of all...cheers on the fun weekend!

Hummm!, what could that be? Is it possible that the rear is ditributing the power unequally? At 18 PSI the ETs might not be able to wrinkle enough and this might cause bounce. Just two possiblitities..

What cured my belt problems was just installing a smaller diameter crank pulley. I used to just eat power steering pumps also.

I feel like the others, living this out with you. I don't know a lot about drag racing, so I'm learning from what you're doing. Maybe I'll give it a shot...

It's incredible how similar our time slips are...
The only reason that my ET was approx. .1 better was the .1 better 60' time...

Your best ET/Mine
---------------------------
60': 1.848 / 1.722
330': 5.161 / 5.054
1/8: 7.89 / 7.776
MPH: 91.13 / 91.40
1000: 10.220 / 10.113
1/4: 12.149 / 12.068
MPH: 117.72 / 115.78

Shane from the way you are running it looks like you are going to loose our bet. Remember if you run a 11.?? run you have to take Robyne out for dinner and pay for the meal. If you do not run an 11.?? ET this summer I owe you $20AM. I am will to up the bet to $40 American. You stay out of the 11's all summer and I will pay $40 :) :)
My money is safe. Just cut a better 60 foot and you are into the 11's
Nice going Shane.

Captain Morgan:
I'm running a Holley 850cfm Double Pumper. I have not done any dyno tuning as of yet, but hopefully in the near future. I am currently running a shift light and man is it nice.

72 Stingray:
Yes I suppose you could consider my race against the Cobra a loss. Both the Mustangs that I have lost to are some serious machines. My buddies '96 has a 514ci Cobra Jet motor and the Cobra Mustang that I lost to was supercharged and pulling almost the same MPH as me down the 1/4 mile. With some more tuning I'll get that Cobra Mustang.

Glenn:
Yes it was a wild ride. I'm not quite used to hooking up as hard as I do with the ET Streets. My last run was a smooth launch and turned out to be the best run of the night. Tim Dotts is a good friend of mine. The motor that was in the Corvette went into Tim's '80 Camaro and ran a best of 11.66 down the 1/4 mile (I believe he told me the MPH was around 115). Now his dad's '67 Camaro...there's a serious machine (running 9s).

RocknRoll:
I will need a roll cage if I run faster than 11.50 (IHRA is a little more leaniant than NHRA). I'm hoping to capture 11s very soon. It's funny because on paper 11s look like a walk in the park. In reality 11s are not an easy task (especially when your car weighs 3000+ lbs).

Clink:
The rear end is fine. I think you may be right with the tire pressure idea, I may try airing them down a bit (maybe to 15lbs) to see if that helps any.

Olivier:
It's strange how my car cut the best 60' it ever has and MPH'ed faster than it ever has. Normally when you start hooking the MPH starts dropping a little. I'm definitely considering trying out a 26x10 slick to see what impact that has on my times.

Norval:
I'm actually hoping that I lose the bet (as is Robyne) :) . I was actually kind of hoping I was going to "break out" and run faster than my dialed in time on Sunday. Looking at the time slip and seeing that I lost and then seeing 12.14 made me happy :) . Thanks Norval.

I think that it's a myth... Anytime my 60' time improved - my mph improved too... The only thing that we both need now will be a better 60' time... You should easily be able to get 1.60's 60' times.. which should be enough for 11's... Unfortunately - I ran on a slow track when I had my 12.06 run... On a faster track - I would have already broken into 11's...
