I never expected this. I just installed Flowmaster 40's to my '78. Nice, deep exhaust sound... but the added bonus suprised the heck out of me. My engine is running at least 10-20 degrees cooler now... even on the freeway! I'm barely hitting 180 degrees even on the hottest days. Makes the 350 bucks I spent on new exhaust seem worth it now.
Buddy told me it has to do with the less restrictive Flowmasters doing a more efficient job of moving heat, gases, exhaust etc. Never expected that dramatic an affect. The mufflers I had were stock replacements less than a year old... but tooooo quiet.
That is a bit too cold to be runnin your motor. I would put a higher temp stat in if i were you. somewhere between 195 and 205 is perfect and will result in less than .0005 inch of cylinder wall wear over a 60 hour period. Below 190 the cylinder wall wear rises exponentially to about .010 inch at 50 degrees F(unreasonable temp obviously)Neway. just a thot for ya to keep your vette pullin hard for as long as possible.
