Default 200-4r power handling

Check this out: http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/...&cart=TnYQWBDl

It says 200-r4 but could it be the same trans? If they can put it behind a Viper.... it should stand up to our Vettes right?
Interesting.

$16,500? I see a 200-4R in there somewhere. But it's obviously been very tricked out. Notice the finned plate where the tranny pan should be.

But we already knew the answer, and it is "YES!" the 200-4R can handle our engines just fine! :yesnod:

Terry, I have read article after article saying how great the 2004R is and that it is the way to go. I have had no personel dealing with the transimission myself and can not say how good it is or how strong it is.

I have a very good friend that is an old roommate / running pal of mine from back in my single days. I have known him for over 30 years and he has been a professional transmission rebuilder the whole time. I trust him and he is widely known as the best in my area. He does all of my Departments Patrol Cars and has done my personel work for years. He builds all of my units for parts cost only if I do them across the counter.

He advised me to NOT use the 200R-4 in my El Camino. He said he would build me a 700-R to use and supply the necessary pieces if I needed an overdrive trans. I was in a hurry and he did not have time to elaborate on just why, but he was steadfast in his warning.

I will go back and talk to him when I can and see just what he has to say and why. Jim

I just put a 200R4 in wy 73. I bought it from Bow Tie Overdrives for $1700. They offer several different performace levels depending on the HP of you engine. I got the level 2: street performance.

I'm in the process of putting one in my '77. Stock engine and stock tranny they will hold up fine, but when I put my 383 or 406 in it will grind the internals to a fine powder then grind the powder into finer powder. They can be bulletproof, about $500 in parts for a 12 second car and you won't have any problems. The faster you go, the more money it'll cost. 9 second Grand Nationals run them, so they can be made very strong.

$16 500? Dammit, wish I'd seen that earlier - I would have bought one :jester
I'm also fitting a Bowtie L2 200-4r into my '81. The Bowtie 200-4r site is now up & running & gives the power handling capabilities of their units. http://www.2004r.com

I noticed what Bowtie says about the Level 2 200-4R: "We experience less than 1% failure on our Level Two units." Plus it'll handle 450-500 hp and 400-450 ft./lb. torque -- which I'm nowhere near! Woohoo! :yesnod:

As long as that 1% failure rate doesn't occur on the right hand side of the Atlantic...... ;)
