So I'm driving along ladedadedah, and I hear a very loud POPping noise and then I hear a dragging noise. Now, I'm not a certified mechanic, but I know when something's wrong. So I pull over and have a look at my car; the air dam seems to have popped off whatever was holding the front/middle of it up, and was dragging on the ground. hmmm. I was fine to drive home like that (20 miles) so long as I didn't hit any rocks laying in the road, or the road didn't go up or down any. So I had to do something, I had friends that could come get me if need be, but I never like to be a burden (especially a 40+mile trip burden) and I'd hate to leave the 'vette there. So, I yank out the coaxial cable that ran to the little antenna on the rear windshield meant for a carphone and tied it up with that.
This was actually several months ago now, and it's still holding just fine. But that brings me to my question... What holds the front of the air dam on? It looks like it's the back of that little towing loop thing, but I'm not sure. Anybody have a good picture of it?
Sounds like your bracket was broken off before, and whatever they had tied up the air dam with before finally broke.
I fabricated my own little bracket to hold up the air dam. It has hit on a couple of driveways and I had to pull it back down. but the new paint hasn't been scuffed since I installed this...
hey bubba, i'm with you. don't let them get you down. hell, i folded mine backwards under my car at buttonwillow then had to drive ~1 mile back to the pits. then i just folded it back to where it should have been and used the hole that the track ground into it to tie my nice, green wire to so i could get back out on track (see pic below). then i drove it like this at home and the next month at willow springs (where this pic was taken) and finally took it off last month when i fabbed a whole new piece from sheetmetal, pics to follow.
