Default Street Slicks

Hello everyone! For those of you who run street slicks, what is the largest size tire that can fit on the stock rim of an 80 vette. How wide can I go before it will rub. Will it hit the monospring? Looking into seeing what she will run at the track soon! Thanks.

I'm running 8" MT ET Streets on stock 15" Corvette Rims.....I tried 10" and it touched on the frame just above the 2" offset trailing arms during hard launch.......With your setup 8" wide should provide plenty enough hook to the pavement with minimum tire smoke..... :flag :seeya Cappy

So I should run 15x8s? That sounds like a good idea, I dont wanna rub the frame or anything! Thanks for the info!

Always keep in mind......if you plan to go with MT ET Streets or BFG Drag Radials.....Do not go below 20 psi unless you have tubes and screws holding bead of the tire to the rim........without a tube and low pressure.....you're taking a chance on the tire deflating at high speeds....without screws the tire bead will slip then rip the valve out of the tube....rapid deflation=bad day at the track. :flag :seeya Cappy

That's great....you know your limits and you're sure your tires won't break bead or spin on the rim......
This reminder is for those new guys who heard about lowering air in tires to get better times....however no one ever explained the dangers of lower air pressure.....I watched a C-5 continue to release air.....after his 4th release....he took her out to the staging,......launched......the tires went flat to the ground......at the top end over 100 MPH.....the driverside tire broke bead........he lost control and the car took him straight into a cement wall.
He was very lucky he was in a Corvette....and in a C-5 with air bags....The air bags and the body absorbed most of the energy.....a metal car and no air bags....he would have been hambuger....they'd need to use chop sticks to get the body out. :flag :seeya Cappy
